Want to do a quick update. Today is THREE weeks post-op! I’ve heard that the three-week mark is often a turning point in many people and I see what they mean! The last 3 days have really been a huge improvement over the last couple of weeks. I’m participating in that Walking Challenge for work and on Wednesday I walked over 2100 steps and yesterday I walked 1500 steps with no real devastating pain effects that would’ve made me bedridden again.
I was having such a hard time at the beginning of the week with my LEFT (non-fused) SI joint that I went back on crutches for a few days to get the pressure off of it so it’d stop screaming at me. I had so many fears of needing a fusion on that side (as you can imagine). Listen. Don’t let the Fear Cow get in your head. Just call your doctor and talk to them. If you can’t talk to your doctor or their assistant, maybe you need to find a new one. I love Dr. Beck… though, maybe he’s special – he gives his patients his email address and cell phone number so we can contact him anytime. He’s been vacationing in France and he STILL returned my emails. I also spoke with his assistant at the office and she told me not to worry about the left side just yet, everything is having to re-shift and normalize to a new pelvis position. She really eased my fears and today, I’m not really having a problem with it. The crutches were also a good idea…always, always, always listen to your body. Sometimes it needs a rest.
After speaking with them, I will be going back to work on Monday. Yay! I’m totally excited. Doesn’t that sound terrible? I’m so sick of staring at the walls. Facebook can only keep me entertained for so long (sorry, guys). I’m a serious people-person and I need to talk to people! Bored. Stiff. I’ll be going back for part-time hours the first week to ease back into it and then as pain allows after that. Because most of my job is sitting, I have to be very careful to get up every 45 minutes for short walk breaks to keep my muscles from getting me stuck in painful positions. I’m taking my Cushy Cloud with me and we will conquer the world! Well, at least the Roofing Distributor world.
I’m still taking a few pain pills everyday as needed. I’m taking the lowest dose of Hydrocodone available and I’m keeping up on the muscle relaxers. I’ll tell you though, I really think the Motrin 800 has been the most helpful this week. I think I’m just dealing with screaming inflammation more than anything else.
My limp has slowed to barely noticeable. Beck’s PA told me to concentrate on walking slow and straight as possible to get my body used to walking in its new “normal.” It helps.
I’m doing this. I’m healing. Praise God!
Again, if you are struggling with this, I cannot emphasize enough how helpful the Facebook groups are for this! There are so many! I have found a tribe of the most funny, uplifting, inspirational pelvically-broken (and fixed!) people to walk me through every step of this process. I love them. “Baby that butt!”
Next week I will tackle writing my external appeal. It’s on like Donkey Kong, Cigna.

You can sit 45 minutes? That’s incredible. Imagine. Maybe I could Sew!
Yes ma’am! I have been working part time now and get up every hour to just stretch and walk for a few minutes and then back to sitting. It’s pretty awesome.
